Journey to Exploring an Alternate Fairytale Part V-Doing You

Hey Everybody!

I want to keep it light today. 🙂

I have a question for you: when you hear “Just do you”, what does that mean for you?

The term is as unique as a thumbprint. Doing you has countless meanings.

What is your definition?

If you don’t know, it is important that you do.

My definition of “doing you” is navigating through my likes versus loves, as well as bathing myself in the joy that my likes and loves foster. My definition also includes discovering new likes and loves and doing things I always wanted to do. Each new discovery teaches me something different about who I am as a person. Who’d thunk that being intentional about getting to know yourself would be borderline fascinating?

Speaking of doing things I always wanted to do: last weekend, I checked something off of my “doing you” bucket list. I saw one of my absolute favorites, Erykah Badu in concert. It was everything I thought it would be an more!!!! She did ALL of my favorites. I grooved, I sung along; I was in “doing you” heaven!

I went by myself.

Since it was a concert, majority of the attendees had dates. You know what I learned about myself that night?

I am growing. I honestly did not feel any type of way. I was in my own world. I looked and felt beautiful. I was comfortable in my own skin. I didn’t need anyone to complement me. I didn’t need any attention. My self esteem is growing and improving. It is a dope feeling.

Doing you teaches YOU about YOU. If you don’t know yourself, how can you accept yourself?

When you know yourself, nobody can tell you who who are. Getting to know yourself can be hard if you have been chasing behind other people and begging them to tell you who you are; begging them to give you a vote of confidence.

If you truly do YOU, you will discover more about you than you realized. Self work is the hardest, yet most rewarding work you will ever do.

Consistency is key.

Discover your dope-ness today.
